The Quakers Ice Hockey Association dates back to the Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup years - during the mid 1970's. The days when kids were just beginning to "get into" hockey - when there were very few clubs in the Delaware Valley area.
The Quakers' first home rink was at the Westtown Ice Rink on West Chester Pike. The rink was eventually sold to allow for new development and the club was forced to move. The younger Quakers (Pee Wee and below) found a new home at the Springfield Rink in Delaware County, while the Bantam and Midgets had to go their separate ways because the rink in Springfield was too small for them. Some of these players ended up with the Valley Forge Colonials at the Blue Line Rink in Radnor while others went to play for the Little Flyers.
After many years in Springfield, the Quakers began to outgrow their rink and once again, found themselves looking for a new home. In 1994, the Quakers found their new home at the triple-rink complex at Ice Line in West Chester. Ice Line was finally a rink large enough to accommodate all their players. In 2002, Ice Line also grew and is now the quad home rink of the Quakers.
Since the early 1970's, the Quakers have grown by leaps and bounds. In the early 70's, the Quakers had approximately 70 players. Today, the Quakers currently have over 500 players registered for the 2010-2011 Season. We have 28 travel teams as noted on our home page of this website. In addition to our travel teams, we run a full cross-ice program.
The Quakers are proud of our "family" atmosphere and of our accomplishments over the years. We continue to be very competitive and a respected organization in the DVHL.
The Quakers Ice Hockey Philosophy
1. Develop a positive environment in which players and parents can have fun with hockey.
2. Teach fundamental hockey skills, discipline, rules and strategy to our players.
3. Model and teach competitiveness with an emphasis on respect and good sportsmanship.
4. Promote increased self-esteem among Quaker players through positive reinforcement and equal ice time.
